Happy Valentine's Day
Sometimes it feels like we are in a relationship with our work.
We spend a big part of our lives thinking about it, talking about it, stressing over it, and sometimes even choosing it over other things. We celebrate the wins, suffer through the hard moments, and keep showing up every day hoping it will love us back. If that is not a relationship, I don't know what is.
But days like today are a good reminder that work is only one part of the full picture of life.
In many countries, including my native Venezuela, Valentine’s Day is not just about romantic love. We call it the Day of Love and Friendship. I've always liked that idea much more. It is not only about couples, flowers, or fancy dinners. It is about the people you choose to have in your life, the ones who support you, challenge you, laugh with you, and make the journey much more enjoyable.
I am super grateful for my friends. Some of them I see often, some of them I talk to once in a while, some of them are in different countries and time zones. But, no matter how ofter we talk or where they are, they all play a role in who I am today, both personally and professionally.
And of course, love must also be celebrated, I love my wife. She is my partner in everything, the person who keeps me grounded when work takes too much space, and the one who reminds me what actually matters when I get lost in deadlines, ideas, and problems that feel bigger than they really are.
So today I choose to celebrate all of that. Love, friendship, family, and the people who make life richer outside of work. If you are reading this, take a moment to message a friend, thank someone who has been there for you, or simply remind the people you care about that they matter.
Happy Valentine’s Day. Or happy love and friendship day.
